John the Apostle, also called Saint John the Evangelist or Saint John the Divine, (flourished 1st century ce; Western feast day December 27; Eastern feast days May 8 and September 26), in Christian tradition, an apostle of Jesus and the author of three letters, the Fourth Gospel, and possibly the Revelation to John in the New Testament.

The Gospel begins with John the Baptist calling Jesus the Lamb of God (). Just as Moses in the Book of Exodus prescribed the sacrificial Lamb must be eaten for the first-born son to have life at the Passover, so we must partake of Jesus, the Lamb of God, at the Eucharistic Sacrifice to have eternal life.

John in his Gospel utilizes the word σημεῖον - sign for the Miracles of Jesus Christ. The. John is known as the author of the Gospel of John and four other books in the New Testament - the three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation.

The authorship of the Gospel is credited to the "disciple whom Jesus loved," and John claims the Gospel of John is based on the "Beloved Disciple's. The Gospel of John is the fourth of the canonical gospels.[Notes 1] The book is written anonymously, although it identifies an unnamed "disciple whom Jesus loved" as the source of its traditions, and reached its final form around AD 90– It most likely reflects a "Johannine community" in Saint John book with the Jewish community, but Saint John book reconstruction, and therefore the social, religious and historical context of the.

Church tradition has held that John is the author of the Gospel of John and four other books of the New Testament — the three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation.

John is traditionally regarded as the author of five books of the Bible: the Gospel of John, the epistles 1 John, 2 John, and 3 John, and the Book of Revelation, although some Bible scholars dispute which of these (if any) he actually wrote.

He is also believed to be the only disciple who died of old age (the others were allegedly martyred). The book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ was written by John probably close to the same time he wrote the epistles which bear his name. The book of the Revelation was written about the vision that John saw while banished to the Greek island of Patmos on the Aegean sea.

The first part of the book follows the life of St. John Paul; the second deals with the five loves of his life, to quote the author's introduction: 'young people, human love, the /5().
